Girls on the Run
Girls on the Run is a wonderful nationwide program, for grades 3rd through 5th, that helps build self esteem, healthy relationships, team work, community service and incorporating fitness. This program also provides sponsorship and clothing or shoes to participants, that might not otherwise be able to participate in Girls on the Run. Wood Elementary has been honored to be involved with this program for the last 6 years. All of our coaches are dedicated teachers, as well as, a few USC interns, that join us every year. A few of our coaches just celebrated their 5th year with the program (Kim Donovan, Lisa Dasher and Ashleigh Carpenter). Our Spring season meets twice a week, for 12 weeks. The lessons include, issues that girls this age, may experience and how to handle them, in a positive way, along with stretching and running. The girls practice for a 5K that they will do with a running buddy at the end of our 12 weeks. They also do a community project together. This year they made dog chew toys for Pets, Inc. Our school is proud to sponsor this program for our girls. If you would like to volunteer, donate or get more information please click on the link below.
