Re: Temporary Move to Remote Learning
Students at Wood Elementary will move temporarily from in-person classes to remote learning for two weeks, beginning Thursday, September 2. The decision to move to temporary remote instruction is a result of the impacts of COVID-19 on students, staff and safe school operations, as well as the challenge of securing substitutes. This decision is not only tied to the number of students and staff who are positive, but the number of students and staff who are also quarantined as the district continues to adhere to quarantine procedures.
The remote learning period will run Thursday, September 2, through Wednesday, September 15; Monday, September 6, is a student holiday. Students are tentatively scheduled to resume in-person classes on campus on Thursday, September 16.
Your child’s teacher will send you information about instructional expectations during remote learning. Click here for remote learning FAQs for parents and students. Should you need technical assistance during remote learning, please click here for Help Desk information.
There will be no school-related clubs, activities and/or events during the remote learning period. These activities will resume when students return to the school campus for in-person classes.
Free student breakfast/lunch meals are available for drive-thru pickup at Wood Elementary from 11am-12pm on Thursday, September 2; Tuesday, September 7; Thursday, September 9; and Monday, September 13. Several days of breakfast/lunch meals for the weekdays will be distributed over each of those pickup days.
Bus delivery of meal bundles also will be offered starting Friday, September 3, between roughly 10 a.m.-1 p.m. as outlined below. We will share information on bus routes for Wood, as soon as they are available, by BrightArrow, on the school website, and on social media.

Lexington Two does not make decisions about shifts in instruction lightly, knowing how they affect students and their families as well as staff and others. Our goal remains five (5) day in-person instruction -- as we started the school year -- in the safest environment possible amid COVID-19. We look forward to welcoming our Cayce students back to campus and will communicate updates with you during this remote learning period.
Sincerely,
Dr. Nicolas Wade, Superintendent of Schools
Mr. Leonard Frierson, Principal of Wood Elementary
