Mrs. Sorrells

I've been a 5th grade teacher at Wood for 6 years. I attended and graduated a small Christian, private school, so I have never experienced public school life. Wood was the first public school I ever stepped foot into during my college years at USC. I fell in love with the community of teachers, and knew I wanted to teach at this school. While teachers and administrators have changed, the love and family vibe that Wood expresses is still there. I was honored to become a 5th grade teacher and have loved it ever since. I enjoy being a supervisor for the Woody Owl School Jobs, being in charge of the Safety Patrol and Flag Crew. This is also my 5th year being yearbook adviser.
My husband and I have been married for 2 years now and don't have children of our own yet. We enjoy family time with our large families and value every moment we get to spend together. My husband is an engineer for the Lexington County Fire Service, so I value family time greatly. On Sundays, I teach the junior high girls Sunday School class and enjoy working in the nursery and greeting at our church. I love to make things and do projects where I can create.
My passion is to reach every child and help them be the best they can be. I believe in being comfortable while learning, and provide movement opportunities for students in class (exercise balls and balance disks). In class, we explore, we learn, we laugh, we work, we don't give up, and we do our best.  Fifth grade can be a challenging year with hormones and emotions as well as challenging content, but we work together and learn to be the best we can be where we are at academically. It takes a village to raise a child, and I am honored to be apart of that village!
